Dresden Altstadt Identity

Objective

To create a visual system for the Altstadt (old town) of Dresden that reflects its complex history and enduring character across different media.

Background

The Altstadt is defined by survival and friction. Heavily bombed in World War II and repeatedly flooded by the Elbe, the district today is a stage for radical political and social tensions.

Concept

Altstadt – a reflection of resilience.

Historical reflection: the shadows of a difficult past cast upon a constantly resurrecting city surface.

Environmental reflection: the district's iconic baroque silhouette mirrored in the turbulent waters of the flooding Elbe.

Cultural reflection: the artistic heritage preserved within the frames of the historic art galleries.

Human reflection: the fierce pride in the eyes of Dynamo Dresden fans, contrasted with the uncertain yet hopeful future in the eyes of the city's younger generation.

Objective

To create a visual system for “NOR-WAY”, a festival of Norwegian film at Kino Babylon in Berlin.

Background

The festival introduces audiences to Norwegian cinema – several Norwegian films have recently received high acclaim at international festivals.

Concept

The aurora borealis is a rare spectacle: mysterious, unexplored, colourful – much like the films in the programme.

Introducing the “Northern Gaze”: a close look at Norwegian cinema, which has become highly relevant, and curiosity about what comes next.

“Mnogo Knig” Bookstore Chain Redesign

Objective

A redesign of the identity of an international bookstore chain that sells books in native languages for different generations.

Background

In an increasingly digital world, reading a physical book in one's native language connects generations and preserves cultural identity. The goal was to move away from predictable, overly commercial retail tropes and create a visual language that combines modern aesthetics with a human presence – celebrating the physical book as both an art object and a cultural anchor.

Concept

The system balances contemporary design with human chaos. The logo is a minimal wordmark with hand-drawn lettering.

The mascot is a friendly, stylised dragon inspired by universal folklore – transformed from a mythical beast into a guardian of stories that breathes “literary fire”.

The system is quiet and sophisticated, borrowing the structural anatomy of a book to frame information.
